about the artist
I was raised and live in Washington DC. I have been constantly drawing from as young as I can remember. Some of the most defining moments in my life as an artist came while growing up in a very conservative Mormon family.
When I was maybe 12 or 13 my mom found my stash of drawings of naked women. I was very proud of these drawing, but my mom though they were filth and she made me take them outside and burn them in front of her. A few years later based on suspicion I was using drugs they called the cops in to search my room, they found nothing illegal, but confiscated all of my sketchbooks (with the approval of my parents) because some of them contained "drug related artwork".
These early experiences made me very protective of my artwork. Also, more determined, fiercely independent and highly suspicious of any type of authority. This, I think, is mindset that breeds the curiosity all artists need to be creative. Later, this led me to become very Interested in the effects of psychedelic drugs. Simply put, they seem to make possible the strangest experience a person can have.
Much of my art reflects on the strange internal world that these catalysts reveal. Recently I have become interested in exploring creativity as an end in its self. Both in my own work and also through large collaborative projects.
